Tourism Marketing Assistant

Go Western Newfoundland (aka. Western Destination Management Organization or WDMO) is a non-profit organization whose role is to develop and market Western Newfoundland as a world class year round tourism destination.  We work to support the continued growth and sustainability of the provincial tourism industry through regional marketing, destination development and market readiness initiatives that will attract more visitors, increase length of stay and provide more experiences that are aligned with the Newfoundland & Labrador brand.

This position is a fantastic opportunity to work in a fast-paced office environment, gain a solid understanding of marketing in the tourism industry, and develop a network of contacts with a variety of professionals (business owners/operators, employees, board members, volunteers, government workers on the municipal, provincial and federal levels, etc.).  

The Tourism Marketing Assistant will work primarily with the Director of Travel Trade & Media Relations on the coordination of FAM (familiarization) tours involving: developing customized itineraries based on the tour participants needs; coordinating tours and bookings with tourism industry; hosting FAM participants on location; and managing follow-up (pending provincial Public Health Guidelines). 

The Tourism Marketing Assistant will also providing administrative support to the Regional Marketing Officer and Executive Director such as drafting documents and correspondence, data entry, updating website, and dealing with email inquiries or incoming calls.

The position is based at Go Western Newfoundland’s office at 50 Main Street, Corner Brook, NL and may require the Marketing Assistant to work from home (pending provincial Public Health Guidelines).

This position is $11.65/hour, 35 hours/week for an 8 week period.

Note: Role responsibilities subject to change based on work plan and organizational requirements.


  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  • Comfortable and professional when communicating over the phone, by email and in person
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Team contributor; assists with various projects/initiatives as they arise in a timely manner
  • Punctual and reliable; good time management skills
  • Pursuing a career in business, marketing or tourism is an asset, but not required
  • Social media content creation for Facebook & Twitter is an asset, but not required
  • Must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age as per Canada Summer Jobs
