Marketing Assistant

Hours: 35 hrs/week

Go Western Newfoundland (aka. Western Destination Management Organization or WDMO) is a non-profit organization whose role is to develop and market Western Newfoundland as a world class year round tourism destination. We work to support the continued growth and sustainability of the provincial tourism industry through regional marketing, destination development and market readiness initiatives that will attract more visitors, increase length of stay and provide more experiences that are aligned with the Newfoundland & Labrador brand.

This position is a fantastic opportunity to work in a fast-paced office environment, gain a solid understanding of marketing in the tourism industry, and develop a network of contacts with a variety of professionals (business owners/operators, employees, board members, volunteers, government workers on the municipal, provincial and federal levels, etc.).  

The Marketing Assistant will work primarily with the Director of Travel Trade & Travel Media. The successful candidate will aid with data entry and write travel articles on relevant travel/tourism topics. The Marketing Assistant will also provide administrative support to the Regional Marketing Officer and Executive Director such as drafting documents and correspondence, post on social media, updating website, and dealing with email inquiries or incoming calls.


  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)

  • Comfortable and professional when communicating over the phone, by email and in person

  • Detail oriented and organized

  • Team contributor; assists with various projects/initiatives as they arise in a timely manner

  • Punctual and reliable; good time management skills

  • Pursuing a career in business, marketing or tourism is an asset, but not required

  • Social media content creation for Facebook & Instagram is an asset

  • Strong writing skills

  • Be comfortable with social media and online marketing (Google My Business, Facebook, etc.)

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Must be willing to use personal cell phone for work with compensation
