All about winter in Western NL – product development and marketing

Winter is a niche market with lots of potential in Western Newfoundland. We’ve tried to be concise but there’s so much to share about how we’re tapping into this market.

During winter 2023 with support from our partners at the Dept. of Tourism, Culture, Arts & Recreation and ACOA, we:

  • Listed over 300 events on

  • Added winter travel offers and packages to

  • Images and video were captured by Dru Kennedy Photography. Available to download in Go Western Newfoundland’s gallery.

  • Hosted FAMs (familiarization tours) to reach a wide audience interested in winter. This resulted in articles in Canadian Geographic and Forecast Ski Magazine.

  • Attended the Outdoor Adventure Show in Toronto during February 2023.

  • Printed and distributed 5,000 Winter Wayfinding Maps at visitor information centres (VICs), industry locations, and travel shows throughout Canada.

  • Hired an Event Coordinator to plan 9 events with partners:

    • Norris Point Winter Carnival Skating Party | Town of Norris Point, Gros Morne Arena, Gros Morne Minor Hockey

    • Brewski | Pasadena Ski & Nature Park, Rough Waters Brew Co., Bootleg Brew Co., Boomstick Brew Co., Western Newfoundland Brewing Co., Crooked Feeder Brewing

    • Crooked Table | Crooked Feeder Brewing Co., Craig Young, variety of local food producers

    • Trailside Table | Middle Brook Cottages, Kacie Callahan, Pollen Nation Farm & Beestro

    • Cormack Winter Carnival Songwriters Circle | Upper Humber Settlement, MusicNL

    • Craig Young at Boomstick | Boomstick Brewing Co., Craig Young

    • Marble Mountain Fat Bike Festival | Tailwind Cycling, Marble Mountain Ski Resort, Cycle Solutions, Rough Waters Brew Co.

    • West Coast Culinary Snowmobile Trail | Western Sno-Riders, Marble Mountain Ski Resort, NL Snowmobile Federation, Tlacuache Restaurant, Best Coast Restaurant, Bishop’s Tavern

    • Food & Photo Tour with Tom Cochrane | Tour Gros Morne, Tom Cochrane Photo

We’re looking forward to winter 2024 and have already started marketing efforts. During October 2023, Go Western NL, NL Tourism, NL Snowmobile Federation, and winter tourism operators attended the Toronto Snowmobile, ATV, & Powersports Show.
